Foreign Exchange Earnings through Tourism Increase by 17.9%


New Delhi: Ministry of Tourism estimated that the monthly Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) through tourism in India has increased (both in terms of dollar as well as rupee) by 17.9 per cent in March 2018. The estimation was made on the basis of credit data of Travel Head from Balance of Payments of RBI.

According to Ministry of Tourism, the foreign exchange earnings through tourism were Rs. 14,667 crore in March 2017 and Rs. 12, 985 crore in March 2016 whereas it grew to Rs. 17,294 in March 2018. The FEEs during the period of January-March 2018 were Rs. 52,916 registering the growth of 15.5 per cent which was only Rs. 45,819 in January-March 2017.

In terms of dollars, the FEEs grew from US$ 2.224 billion to US$2.659 billion from March 2017 to March 2018. Whereas it was only US$ 1.938 billion in March 2016. The growth rate in FEEs in US$ terms in March 2018 over March 2017 was 19.6% compared to the growth of 14.8% in March 2017 over March 2016.

FEEs during the period January-March 2018 were US$ 8.228 billion with a growth of 20.4% as compared to the FEE of US$ 6.833 billion in January- March 2017 with a growth of 14.4% over January- March 2016.
